What is Rahu Puja (Rahu Shanti)?
Rahu is one of the nine grahas of Vedic astrology. It has no physical body, so tradition calls it a chhaya graha (shadow planet): the point where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's. In the Vimshottari dasha system, Rahu Mahadasha lasts 18 years.
A Rahu Shanti puja is a traditional prayer offered to Rahu. Families usually choose it during Rahu Mahadasha or a Rahu antardasha, or when a kundli reading shows Rahu in a placement they want to pray about. It is an act of faith, not a fix for any problem.
When families usually choose Rahu puja
- During Rahu Mahadasha or a Rahu antardasha in the birth chart.
- When a kundli reading highlights Rahu's placement and the family wishes to pray.
- Before a new beginning, if the family wants to start with a shanti puja.
- As part of a wider prayer to all nine grahas (see Navgrah Shanti puja).
How the puja is traditionally done
- Sankalp: the pandit takes the name of the person the puja is for, the gotra if the family knows it, and the purpose of the puja.
- Ganesh puja and kalash sthapana: as per tradition, every puja begins with Lord Ganesh.
- Main puja and mantra jaap for the deity or graha the puja is offered to.
- Havan, aarti and daan, as the vidhi requires.
The pandit explains the exact vidhi, the mantra jaap and anything you need to arrange when you book, before you pay.

Frequently asked questions
When is Rahu puja usually done?
Tradition links it with Rahu Mahadasha (18 years in the Vimshottari system) or a Rahu antardasha. If you are not sure whether a Rahu period is running in your chart, a kundli consultation can tell you. It is optional.
Is Rahu dosh something to be afraid of?
No. A Rahu period comes in everyone's dasha cycle at some point, and many people go through it without any puja. We explain your chart calmly and we never use fear to sell a puja.
What is the difference between Rahu kaal and Rahu dasha?
Rahu kaal is a short period of about one and a half hours every day that tradition avoids for new starts. Rahu dasha is a period of several years in your birth chart. Rahu Shanti puja relates to the dasha, not to the daily Rahu kaal.
Is the Rahu Mahadasha puja different from Rahu Shanti puja?
Both are on our price list as special pujas at ₹21,000 each. The pandit tells you which vidhi suits your situation when you book.
